The 38-year-old man charged with perjury after faking a burglary at his Pretoria North home last week, is out on bail, police said on Tuesday.
Francois Petrus Walkinshan was arrested on Thursday morning, after police discovered the fridge and washing machine he reported stolen he had sold to Cash Converters.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlane last week said: “We were tipped that the suspect sold his items that morning. We then called him to Cash Converters in Nina Park where we had him arrested.”
Phatlane said Walkinshan was granted R500 bail last Friday. He will return to court on 28 January.
Earlier this year, Walkinshan was reported missing by his family and Pink Ladies, the non-profit organisation that helps families look for their missing loved ones, sent out an alert to that effect.
Police confirmed to Rekord that a missing person’s report was filed but it was unclear when he was found.
