Case against ADT officer dismissed

Court case against ADT officer who shot resident has been dismissed.

Charges have been dropped against an ADT reaction officer who shot and wounded a client’s 22-year-old son recently.

ADT security confirmed the reaction officer appeared in court on Wednesday morning on a charge of attempted murder. The case was however dismissed.

The reaction officer responded to an emergency alarm at a Heuweloord home that was triggered at 05:06 last Wednesday morning.

When he arrived at the house, he saw the door of an outside room was open.

He investigated and found an unlocked security door. He went into the house to check for any signs of forced entry.

He noticed someone in a dark room walking towards him. He called out, but their was no reply.

Assuming it was a perpetrator, he fired a shot which hit the man in the leg.

Only afterwards he found out it had been the homeowner, Nhwako Rangata’s son.

ADT district manager (Northern region) Leon Muller commented on the court’s ruling. “While we regret this unfortunate incident, we are relieved at this outcome and believe it to be the correct one,” said Muller.

When Rekord spoke to Rangaka he was surprised to hear the court’s ruling.

He said he would only be able to comment once he has read the court’s ruling.
