Collegues, CPF shocked by cop murder
Colleagues at Loate Police Station have reacted with shock to the tragic murder of Lietenent-Colonel Reiner Logois.
The murder of a top cop stationed at Loate has left colleagues and CPF members devastated.
Lieutenant-Colonel Renier Lourens Logois (51), who was the head of support at the Loate police station in Winterveldt was shot and killed at his home in Rietondale, Pretoria on Monday night. Fourteen used cartridges were found at the scene.
His 1993 Toyota Corolla was also missing, and it is suspected his killers used it as a gateway vehicle.
The man who worked closely with Logois for over ten years, Colonel Jan Nkomo, said he was still shocked by the tragic incident.
“He was a great man, an interesting person to work with. He was humble and dedicated to the course of his work. He was a man you could open up to even when you had a personal problem,” he said.
CPF chairman, Khali Mogale said he was devastated by the murder.
“I am still shocked. His office was always open to the community. He was such a humble man and always ready to advise,” said Mogale.
The Hawks team which specialises in probing police killings said this week it was following several leads in its quest to find the killers.
Head of the Hawks, Lieutenant-General Mthandazo Ntlemeza said the killers had put their names on the list of the most wanted and vowed that they will not enjoy freedom for long. He said the team was very determined to hunt them down and bring them to justice.
“We [the Hawks] have said it before that killing a police officer is declaring war against the state. Killing a police officer is threatening the security of the country, and we will never allow cold-blooded criminals to run riot in our country. We are hunting for the suspects and will find them. We are determined to remove them from society and their days of tormenting our officers are numbered,” said Ntlemeza.
