NATIONAL NEWS: 4-year-old falls to death

A 4-year-old child fell to his death, when his father left the room for a while.

A 4-year-old child fell to his death from the ninth floor in the Overport area of Durban.

It is alleged the child was left in the flat while his father went to meet someone at the entrance of the building, Risingsun Overportreported.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the child lying on the ground. The child died before our arrival due to the extensive injuries that he sustained,” Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said an inquest docket has since been opened and the circumstances surrounding the incident were still being investigated.

In May last year, a 3-year-old boy died after he fell from the fifth floor of a building in the Johannesburg CBD.

The toddler was reportedly playing with other children when he fell into the elevator carriage and fell to the ground floor.

The parents said they had not been monitoring the child when he fell into the carriage.

Paramedics arrived for assistance, but the little boy died on the scene.
