NATIONAL NEWS: Pregnant woman flips car during hi-jacking attempt

A pregnant woman flipped her car when two armed men attempted to hijack her.

A pregnant Lotus Park resident and her unborn baby were fortunate to survive a hijacking attempt in Lotus Park, Durban this morning.

“It is alleged by the complainant that at about 6:25am she was seated in her vehicle when she was approached by two men at gunpoint,” provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said.

The woman then put the vehicle in reverse and went over a sand bank, overturning the vehicle after which the men fled scene, South Coast Sun reported.

The woman was believed to have been trapped inside until a response officer responded to the scene.

“Residents also rushed to the aid of the victim and she was transported to a medical facility for treatment,” said Alpha Alarms spokesperson Krishnee Naidoo said.

According to Naidoo, the hijackers allegedly arrived in two vehicles, a Peugeot 206 and a silver VW, Polo before approaching the woman.

A case of attempted hijacking was opened at Isipingo police for investigation and no arrests have been made.
