Four would-be thieves have tried to gain entry into a house inside a security complex in the Reeds, Centurion.
Resident Melissa Chester said she was woken up by screaming at 22:20 on Sunday night.
She said the screams were coming from a neighbour’s house, where four men were trying to gain entry by breaking down a security gate.
The men fled upon realising that the man of the house had spotted them.
Police arrived and said the intruders had gained entry by jumping over an electric fence surrounding the complex.
The thieves got away with five pairs of shorts hanging from a washing line.
“Fortunately this is all they took,” said Chester.
She said about 16 cars were stolen from the complex last year. adding: “We live in constant fear.”
Residents were to hold a meeting next month to discuss the problem, Chester said.
