Toy gun robbery case postponed

Two men arrested for robbery with a toy gun will have to wait a while longer for their day in court.

Two men arrested for robbing a Pakistani national with a toy gun in Eersterust will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court again next Tuesday.

Webster Adams (32) and Jermain van der Westhuizen (35) made their first appearance on Monday, and their case was postponed to 26 January.

The two were charged with business robbery.

Accompanied by an accomplice who is still at large, they entered a shop belonging to the Pakistani in St. Joseph, Eesterust and pointed the toy gun at him. They demanded cigarettes and money.

The Pakistani sounded the alarm and residents called the police while others chased after the men.

One was caught and a toy gun was found on him.

Police spokesperson Sam Shibambo said the second man was in possession of the stolen cigarettes when he was arrested.

“The third suspect evaded arrest but we will catch him soon. We are closing the net on him,” Shibambo said.
