Trio arrested for house robbery

Police managed to trace and arrest three robbers in Ga-Rankuwa.

Three men were traced and arrested for house robbery in Ga-Rankuwa on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said the trio were being investigated for more crimes.

“A 42-year-old woman was followed to her home by three men after she withdrew money from the bank at the Ga-Rankuwa shopping centre. She only noticed the suspects when she arrived at her house in Zone 15,” he said.

Nkoadi said the robbers allegedly pointed a firearm at her and demanded money.

“They forced her to the bedroom where they took her two cellphones, a tablet, laptop and R12 000 before fleeing the scene with a white VW Jetta which was waiting outside,” he said.

“Our members from the sectors received a tip-off and managed to track the white VW Jetta at Molefe Makinta freeway. The vehicle was stopped and searched and inside the stolen items were seized.”

The robbers were arrested and taken to the Ga-Rankuwa police station, Nkoadi said.

“All suspects are aged between 29 and 35 years and appeared on Thursday at the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on charges of house robbery and possession an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” he said.
