Protest turns violent at home of Tshwane mayor’s parents
A peaceful meeting reportedly turned violent when residents voiced their dissatisfaction with the outcome of a general ANC ward meeting in Atteridgeville.
Apparently residents were dissatisfied with the decisions at a general ward meeting. They then took to the street in front of the house of Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa’s parents’ home.
ANC regional spokesperson Teboho Joala told Rekord that protests started outside the mayor’s previous residence, where his parents now reside, following the meeting where a Ward 61 councillor was elected.
“Community members gathered in front of the mayor’s house, singing,” Joala said.
The peaceful protest didn’t last long.
“They started damaging the road and other property,” Joala said.
Police soon arrived to disperse the crowd.
“The situation is under control now. As I understand, everything seems calm once more,” Joala concluded.
