Taxi driver beaten with knobkieries

Police and emergency support responded to a man being beaten at the weekend in Centurion.

A taxi driver was assaulted on the corner of the R55 and Drakensberg Road in Centurion over the weekend.

Orange Fox’s Ruan Heyns said the security firm and Netcare 911 medics arrived on the on the scene on Saturday evening, attending to a man being beaten by a group of men. They later discovered the man being beaten was a taxi driver.

“We are not sure why the group assaulted the man,” said Heyns.

Heyns said the group was beating the man with knobkieries.

He said OrangeFox, with the help of police, Netcare 911 and Monitornet managed to defuse the situation.

Medics immediately tended to the injured man.

“The taxi driver was treated on the scene and then taken to a local hospital,” said Heyns.

“The assault was allegedly related to taxi violence,” Heyns said.
