Dagga removed in Centurion

Dagga valued at tens of thousands of rand was removed in Centurion on Thursday, in the ongoing battle to rid the area of the drug.

An estimated R50 000 worth of dagga was removed from a veld in Centurion on Thursday morning, in the ongoing battle by Tshwane metro police to rid city of the drug.

Tshwane metro police by-law unit and the Ward 79 Councillor Vickey Bosch removed countless dagga plants in Theron Street near Pierre van Ryneveld.

A trailer was filled with removed plants with an estimated street value of R50 000.

The dagga is suspected to be growing naturally, exacerbated by recent rains. Metro police believed local dealers and users harvested the field.

Metro police regularly raid dagga plantations. In February last year, three plantations were raided and dagga with a combined valued of R600 000 was removed.

Bosch commended the metro police for ridding the ward of the drug.

“If this substance was left to mature, it would be freely available to anyone. I don’t want this stuff to get in the hands of our youth and I commend the unit for their hard work,” he said.

No arrest was made.
