Police still searching for ‘mafioso’ killer

A Laudium man was shot dead while another was critically injured during a shooting in Boksburg.

Police are still looking for unknown men who shot and killed a Laudium ‘mafioso’ in Boksburg on Tuesday.

Ziyaad Janoo was killed and his friend injured during a shooting outside Presley’s.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said on Friday the killers were still on the run.

Janoo gained popularity after featuring in a viral video, ‘Chicky Lamba’, in which he and his friends kidnapped a man and threatened him with a gun in 2014.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said paramedics arrived in Field Street and found two men in a vehicle, one of them with multiple gunshot wounds.

“Sadly there was nothing that could be done for that person. He had succumbed to his injuries.”

She said the second person, who also had been shot, was in a critical condition. He was airlifted to hospital.

Dlamini said the unknown killers fled in a black Subaru.

“We cannot confirm how many suspects were involved. We are investigating the motive behind the shooting. A case of murder and attempted murder is being investigated.”

According to reports, the shooting was a drug deal gone wrong.

Dlamini however could not confirm this.
