Three men were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms in Eersterust on Tuesday morning.

Eersterust police spokesperson Sam Shibambo said a member of the community tipped the police off after they saw the trio carrying guns.

“We received information that the trio were carrying unlicensed firearms and acted swiftly. We kept the house they were allegedly occupying under observation,” Shibambo said.

The men, according to Shibambo left their house in Delphemium Road and drove off in a silver VW Polo.

“Police intercepted the trio and stopped them in Hans Coverdale Road East, they were then searched,” Shibambo explained.

One of the culprits was found with a licensed firearm, while a pistol was found on the passenger seat of the car.

“The three suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and are detained at the Eersterust police station until their court appearance,” Shibambo concluded.

The men will be appearing in court soon.

Shibambo thanked the whistleblower and encouraged more people to report crime.
