De Beer murder still a mystery
There has been no breakthrough in the police investigation into the cold-blooded murder of Tuks maintenance manager Johan de Beer.
The brutal murder of Johan de Beer on the Tuks Hatfield campus earlier this month remains a mystery.
No arrest had been made by Friday, said Brooklyn police spokesman Captain Colette Weilbach.
The police investigation into the killing was continuing unabated, she said.
The 64-year-old De Beer was discovered dead in a toilet cubicle in the Musaion Building at the University of Pretoria in the early hours of the morning.
His hands were tied behind his back and a plastic bag had been tied over his head.
A subsequent autopsy showed that De Beer, well-known in the Pretoria arts circles as a poet and singer, had died as a result of suffocation.
According to the police, R600 that De Beer had withdrawn from an automatic teller machine on campus had been stolen.
When De Beer did not arrive home from work at his usual time, his wife had alerted university authorities and a manhunt was launched before his body was discovered by a security guard.
