A journalist was shot and wounded during a hijacking in Sandton on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said this happened on the M1 freeway near the Grayston Drive off-ramp when a BMW approached a minibus taxi occupied by 11 journalists.
He said the taxi was cut off by the BMW. Four armed men then approached the taxi.
“They got into the taxi. One of the suspects drove while the others searched the victims. When they got to Linbro Park, they came across a police patrol car and made a U-turn. The BMW sped off from the scene.”
Two of the hijackers fled on foot and fired random shots, hitting one of the journalists in the upper body, he said.
Netcare 911 said the man was in a serious condition.
“He was admitted to a local hospital where he is receiving treatment at the moment,” said spokesperson Chris Botha.
According to reports, the journalist was an Angolan citizen.
A case of hijacking and attempted murder is being investigated.
