Alleged hijackers in court

Two men who crashed while trying to escape in a hijacked car will apply for bail next week.

Two alleged hijackers, who caused a crash that injured four people during an escape attempt in Rosslyn, appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

“They will reappear on Wednesday for the bail hearing. They are still in custody,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi.

The two men apparently hijacked a new BMW 3-series car at gunpoint in Rosslyn on Wednesday as it was being transported from the BMW plant to be stored.

“The armed men on foot approached the driver of the BMW and forced him out of the car at gunpoint. They jumped in and sped off.”

However, the men collided with a Toyota Venture at an intersection near the Akasia police station, injuring four people.

They were immediately arrested and faced charges of hijacking, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm and reckless driving, Nkoadi said.
