Security officers shot during attempted hijacking
Two security officers were shot during an attempt to hijack a cigarette truck in Silverton.
Two security officers were shot and wounded during an attempted hijacking of a cigarette truck in Silverton on Tuesday morning.
Silverton police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said this happened on Vivian Road when the Fidelity security was escorting British American Tobacco‘s truck.
“The truck was transporting cigarettes. An unknown number of men approached the officers behind the truck and fired shots at them in an attempt to hijack the truck.”
Sepato said the officers were wounded.
According to Intelligence Bureau SA, the officers were in a critical condition.
Sepato could not provide further information at the time of publishing.
Fidelity security was not yet available for comment.
