The owner of Best Care Ambulance Services was brutally attacked during a robbery in Van der Hoff Road near Hartebeespoort on Tuesday night.
Best Care spokesperson Xander Loubser said the attack happened around 21:00.
“Kobus Bester was pulled over by a White VW Golf with blue police lights. As he stopped, two men attacked him and stabbed him in the face, head and left arm,” he said.
Loubser said Bester fought the robbers off with a knife.
“He was kicked in the ribs before the assailants ran off.”
“A man drove past and saw him covered in blood,” Loubser explained adding that the man stopped to call Best Care to come help Bester.
Loubser said Bester was treated on the scene then taken to Eugene Marais hospital where he was admitted.
Listen to Loubser speak about the attack:
Bester’s cellphone and wallet were stolen in the attack.
The assailants were chased by SAPS K9 unit and HGVA members but disappeared in Atteridgeville.
This is not the first attack on Bester. In 2008, he was shot in an attempted hijacking.
He is still in a lot of pain but recovering well, said Loubser.
