Criminals arrested on way to commit crime

Police arrested four armed men following a tip off the men planned to commit a crime.

Police stopped would-be criminals in their tracks on the N1 freeway after a tip-off from the community on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said police received information that a gang of criminals was travelling in two vehicles to executive a hit.

He said police spotted the vehicles on the N1 near Atterbury Road.

“The cars were stopped and the four occupants and cars searched near the Atterbury Road off-ramp,” Mofokeng said.

He said two unlicensed firearms were found and the men, aged between 32 and 46, were immediately arrested.

“They are charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen vehicles,” he said.

The men would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon, and the investigation continues.
