A pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car on the R55 in Centurion on Friday night.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Braam Kruger, said this happened in Raslouw on the corner of the R55 and Lochner Road.
“Emer-G-Med was on scene, but unfortunately the pedestrian had passed away. He was declared dead on the scene,” said Kruger.
This was the second pedestrian killed on the R55 the past few days.
On 5 February, a pedestrian was knocked over and killed on the R55, near Wierda Road.
Ward councillor Marika Kruger Muller said she had repeatedly called for traffic lights to be installed on the corner of the R55 and Lochner Road.
“Motorists often speed on the R55. The intersection at Lochner Road is especially dangerous as a result. Outsurance has even refused to put a pointsman there as it is too dangerous,” said Kruger Muller.
She said there was a glimmer of hope that the problem would be rectified.
“Plans have been submitted to have a Netcare hospital built close to the intersection. One of the prerequisites is that proper traffic lights need to be installed. We hope that this goes ahead.”
