Robbers flee with cellphones worth a million
Police have launched a search for an armed gang who robbed a cellphone shop of phones valued at over a million rand in Centurion.
Police are searching for armed robbers who stole cellphones of more than a million rand from the Vodacom store at the Mall@Reds in Centurion.
Spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said men entered the shop on Thursday morning disguised as staff, one wearing Vodacom-branded t-shirt and jeans and the other in an LG-branded t-shirt.
Selepe said the men entered the shop as it was being opened with the rest of staff. “One was pushing a trolley,” she said.
They ordered staff at gunpoint into the staff room, where they instructed they to lie on the floor.
“They instructed staff to pack cellphones into bags. CCTV footage shows that there were more than two suspects waiting outside the shop,” Selepe said.
The men fled with three bags filled with cellphones valued at over a million rand.
They fled in a blue Toyota Corolla and another unknown vehicle. Registration numbers are unknown at this stage, she said.
“Police are scrutinising video footage. The suspects are still at large.”
Orange Fox Security spokesperson Vanessa Jacobs said the robbers assaulted a security guard at the mall.
Selepe urged the community to come forward with information.
“We are calling on anyone with information to contact Wierdabrug police station on 012-654-4031 or the Crime Stop on 08600-10111,” she said.
