Around 24 shots were fired in Galana Street east of Pretoria at the weekend when Brinant Security responded to an attempted robbery.

Brinant Security owner Anton Nieuwoudt said they received a call of an attempted armed robbery on Galana Street, early on Saturday morning and a response unit was dispatched.

“It was 01:20 our unit arrived and spotted three armed men at the residence.”

Shots were fired by the men and Brinant Security returned fire.

“Around 24 shots were fired between the men and the response unit.”

Nieuwoudt said the men jumped walls in an attempt to flee.

He said a backup unit was also at the scene and the men attempted to steal one of Brinants vehicles.

“The armed men shot at one of our [Brinant] vehicles in an attempt to steal the vehicle,” Nieuwoudt said.

He said the men were unsuccessful in the attempted theft and fled on foot.

Nieuwoudt said later in the morning blood was found around the scene and they believed one of the men had been wounded.

“A police forensic team would later confirm if the blood found was indeed that of the perpetrators,” said Niewoudt.

Directorate of Specialised Security’s spokesperson Brandon Morgan confirmed the 24 shots fired and that the men fled on foot.

“Brinant Security, Lyttelton police, Bull Security and Orange Fox Security were at the scene,” said Morgan.

He said they (DSS) believed one of the armed men was wounded because blood was discovered.

“Police would confirm this.”

Police could not be reached for comment before going to print.
