Stolen 16 Toyota Fortuners a hoax
The murder of two security guards and theft of 16 Toyota Fortuners from a Mafikeng dealership on Friday has been confirmed a hoax.

A hoax message detailing the murder of two security guards and the theft of 16 unregistered Toyota Fortuners notoriously circulated at the weekend.
In the message, it was claimed two security guards were had been shot dead when 16 unregistered Toyota Fortuners were stolen at a Toyota dealership in Mafikeng on Friday after a safe containing car keys and vehicle papers was bombed open.
A false case number and all relevant facts were provided strongly giving an impression the hoax was fact.
The message continued to say computer hard drives with the vehicle information were also stolen.
“The vehicles were reported [stolen] at the Mafikeng police station and a case was opened.
“An alleged 20 people were involved in the theft,” the message read
At 11:45 ten Toyota Fortuners were fuelled at a Total garage on Nelson Mandela drive in Mafikeng using a Toyota petrol card.
According to the garage CCTV footage each vehicle had two people in it.
The vehicles were believed to be headed in the Pretoria direction, the message concluded.
Mafikeng police confirmed the message a hoax and said the theft had not happened.
“We can confirm the allegations as false,” police said.
A representative of the Mafikeng Toyota dealership also denied the theft.
