A 35-year-old man has been stabbed and robbed of R40 000 which he had withdrawn at Absa Bank, Van der Hoff Street in Hercules at around 12:30 on Wednesday.

Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the man had withdrawn a large amount at the bank and was getting into his car.

“An unknown man approached him and stabbed him with a sharp object and he fell unconscious. Another suspect arrived at the scene, closed the victim’s mouth and subsequently robbed him of all the cash,” he said.

Captain Msimango said the wounded man was taken to Kalafong hospital. “No arrests have been made yet but a case of armed robbery has been opened for further investigations,” he said.

Police warned residents not to withdraw large amounts of cash because it could put their lives in danger.

Captain Msimango said people can assist the police to fight fraud, corruption unethical behaviour or any other suspicious activities by phoning the Gauteng standby provincial duty numbers: duty General 082-313-8299 or duty Brigadier 082-334-4354.
