Police hunt for restaurant shooter

Police have launched a manhunt for a man who shot a restaurant employee at a golf course in the east this week.

Police are still on the look out for a man who walked up to a restauranteur at Kimiad golf course east of Pretoria earlier this week and shot him at close range.

It is alleged the unknown assailant, who arrived at the restaurant before it opened, told his victim the shooting was a warning to the restaurant’s owner.

The victim, Conrad Liebenberg, general manager at O Sole Mio restaurant, was shot in the upper body around 08:00 on Wednesday morning.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said no arrests had been made.

“At this stage we are following up on various leads and there is nothing new to report yet,” he told Rekord on Thursday.

Liebenberg was in a critical condition.

“The suspect walked into the restaurant and found only employees inside, as the restaurant was still closed. He took out a gun and shot one of them before fleeing the scene,” Miller said.

According to staffer Jana Jones, the shooting appeared it was meant as a warning to the restaurant owner.

“From what I heard, Conrad said the man shouted that it was a warning to his boss,” said Jones.
