Police visit schools to address crime

Loate police have visited various schools in Mabopane and Winterveldt to address the issue of crime.

Loate police, joined by members of the CPF, sector managers and members of the youth desk visited several schools in Mabopane this week to discuss the issue of crime in the community.

“These kind of projects are normally conducted during the first quarter of the year, to bring back morals in schools,” said police spokesperson, Constable Petunia Chabangu.

The week-long campaign started last Wednesday.

Chabangu said police were concerned about criminal activities in the area.

“We want to let the criminals know we would not tolerate crime in this area,” she said.

Chabangu also urged the community to work with police and report crime.

“School searches were conducted at various schools, as the principals requested that a relationship be built between the SAPS and the schools,” said Chabangu.

The police also visited Manamelong Primary School and pupils were educated on bullying, drugs and abuse.

Pupils were also informed about the importance of education and advised about issues of rape, domestic violence, bullying at school, criminal records and illegal substances.

They were urged to participate in sports activities and avoid criminal deeds.
