Three men accused of stealing foreign currency from the State Security Agency appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Albert Ramabele, Khayalethyu Mgatyelwa and William Mmotong would reportedly be back in court on 6 April.
All three were out on bail, said Hawks spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
He said police were still investigating the theft of R17 million.
Ramabele, Mgatyelwa and Mmotong are alleged to have stolen the money from the agency’s headquarters in the east of Pretoria around Christmas.
Mmotong and Mgatyelwas were arrested first. Ramabele later handed himself in to police after a reward was offered for information of his whereabouts.
The first arrests were made after CCTV footage showed a man walking through the agency’s corridors at the time of the theft.
Mulaudzi said last month the police had reason to believe the theft was an inside job.
