Man arrested for stealing batteries

Man arrested when he was caught in possession of MTN power batteries.

A 40-year-old man was arrested after he was found in possession of stolen batteries in Olievenhoutbosch on Thursday morning.

The arrest was done in Extension 24. Batteries valued at R48 000 were found with the man, Captain Tumisang Moloto of Erasmia said on Friday.

Police and officials from the MTN network company followed up on information after eight batteries were reported stolen at Sunderland Ridge industrial firm at the tower. The tracking device led police to Extension 24 where a suspicious Toyota Hilux double cab was spotted,” he said.

Moloto said further investigations were conducted and police found eight batteries which were suspected to be stolen.

“The man was arrested immediately and detained at Olievenhoutbosch police station.”

A case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened, Moloto said.
