Two thieves with a discerning taste in whisky were arrested early on Friday.

They had apparently been drinking since stealing some expensive liquor on Tuesday, said police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi.

The two broke into a tavern in Mogogelo in Temba.

“It is alleged that the suspects committed a business burglary at Dimatis Tavern on Tuesday night around 23:00 and stole boxes of Chivas Apolis.”

Moremi said they were found and arrested on Friday around 07:00 in Mogogelo village north of Pretoria.

“The suspects, aged 28 and 30, were arrested after police received information about them,” he said.

“They were found still asleep in a girlfriend’s house when police arrived. The suspects were arrested on the scene.”

The house was searched and more than 11 boxes of Chivas with an estimated value of R4000 were seized, Moremi said.

Moremi said both men were drunk and they confirmed that they had been consuming alcohol since Tuesday evening.

“The suspects were detained at the Temba police holding cells and will appear at the Moretele Magistrate’s Court soon.”
