Dozens arrested over drugs
A total of 26 people were arrested over the weekend for possession of drugs.
No fewer than 26 people were arrested over drugs in central Pretoria at the weekend.
Metro police spokesperson Phindile Molefe her officers arrested nine people in a blitz in Pretoria West and CBD on Sunday night after complaints about criminal activity in Brown Street.
“Seven people were arrested in the CBD for dealing in and being in possession of drugs.”
She said two other men were arrested on the corner of WF Nkomo Street and E’skia Mphahlele Drive at the Total filling station after a tip-off.
“The police advise drug dealers to stop supplying drugs to our communities, especially to youth because they are destroying lives. Anyone found dealing in or possessing drugs will be arrested,” Molefe said.
The Pretoria Central police cluster made 17 drug-related arrests for possession around the CBD, said spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.
“They will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.”
Selepe said one man was arrested for fraud for using a credit card not belonging to him at an Edgar’s store.
“Luckily the manager and the security were alert called the police immediately. A case of fraud was opened,” she said.
Selepe said 10 more people were arrested for various other crimes, such as assault and being in possession of stolen goods.
