Man hit by double whammy, hijacked then robbed
A man was thrown out of a car as hijackers sped off with his friend then robbed of his cellphone and money.
A man was thrown out of a hijacked vehicle then robbed on his way to seek help in Pretoria West on Sunday.
The man, a passenger in the hijacked car, was with his friends when hijackers pounced on them.
He was let go but his friend is still missing.
Francois Oberholzer of AfriForum community watch said they received a call about a hijacking around 19:00 on Sunday. “The man was thrown out of the car on the corner of Transoranje and Vom Hagen streets – the area is notorious for robberies after dark. Unfortunately, he was robbed of his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.
Oberholzer said AfriForum had asked the Tshwane metro to put up lights in the area as it had become a crime hotspot. “We attend to crime scenes in the area on a regular basis. We believe lights would significantly reduce crime,” he said.
Oberholzer said on Monday, police were investigating.
