Wife arrested for drugs, man on run

Residents discovered a bucket full of dagga as they helped a couple to move out.

A man is on the run and his wife has been taken into police custody after a 20 litre bucket full of dagga was found in their possession.

A member of the community policing forum said the couple resided in a house on Servaas Street in Pretoria West and were moving house so they asked the community for help.

“As the members of the community were packing their stuff into a car, they came across a foul-smelling bucket which turned out to be full of dagga. The residents immediately called the local CPF and we summoned the police. When the husband realised the drugs had been found, he fled,” he said.

The wife, who has a small baby, was arrested.

One of the residents who helped the couple move said there were rooms in the house that were locked.

“I suspect there could be more drugs and not just dagga behind those closed doors,” he said.

Drug houses were on the increase in the area, he said. “We are the eyes and ears of the police and we are worried at the number of drug houses in the area. Our area is being turned into a drug haven,” he said.
