NATIONAL NEWS: What do you get when you cross an ostrich and a horse… seriously injured

Two men were seriously injured when two animals attacked them in two different areas on Tuesday.

Mayhem ruled the animal kingdom on Tuesday, as an ostrich and a horse each attacked a man in separate incidents.

A 40-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was attacked by an ostrich in Harrismith. “Reports from the scene indicate the man was replacing a billboard poster at the time of the attack,” Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said.

She said paramedics stabilised him on scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

In the second incident, a 55-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was attacked by a horse on a farm in Bethlehem, Free State. Mathe said the Netcare helicopter airlifted the man to a Johannesburg hospital for specialised medical care.
