NEWSFLASH: Two kids found with decomposed dead body
Two children were found with a decomposing body of a man in a locked flat in Faerie Glen on Tuesday afternoon
Two minors were found with the decomposing body of a man in a flat in Faerie Glen on Tuesday afternoon.
The children, aged four and five, opened the door to a caretaker after a bad smell from the apartment was picked up.
The dead man might have been their father, but this still needed to be confirmed, police said.
Boschkop police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe said a gardener at the complex became aware of the bad smell around 16:30.
He reported the smell to the caretaker who investigated.
“The caretaker looked through a window and saw two children inside the flat – one of four years and the other of five years old.”
He asked the children to open the door.
Van der Merwe said: “The caretaker found a decomposing body of a man and immediately called the police.”
There was no sign of forced entry and an inquest would be conducted.
A resident at the complex said she had picked up the foul smell two to three days earlier, indicating that the body had been there for a while.
She said she had no clue of its origins.
Garsfontein police spokesperson Warrant Officer Miller confirmed a body of a man that was found with the children.
“Police would still confirm the reason for the man’s death.”
The children were collected by a family member yesterday.
