Man robbed in Centurion

Police warn residents to be on the alert when withdrawing large amounts of money as they could be followed and robbed.

A man was robbed of about R13 000 after he was followed home from his bank in Centurion on Thursday afternoon.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said the man had withdrawn money from Standard Bank at the Lyttelton shopping centre.

“He left the centre and was followed by a silver Hyundai up to Van Riebeeck Avenue. As he got out of his car, an armed man jumped out of the Hyundai and held him at gunpoint.”

Gumbu said the man was ordered to hand over the money.

“The robber fled with R13 000. No one was injured.”

Gumbu urged residents to be vigilant when withdrawing large amounts of money.

“When people withdraw a lot of money, they should avoid travelling alone or they should ask a security company nearby to escourt them.”
