Fire at takeaway

Fire damage at takeaway on Saturday night.

A fire broke out in the kitchen of a small takeaway on Saturday night north of Pretoria when a frying machine was apparently left switched on.

Best Care emergency services responded to a call after flames were noticed coming from a building on the corner of Ben Viljoen and Van Riebeeck streets.

“On arrival we found that a takeaway shop had left a chips frying machine on and the oil had caught fire,” reported Corné de Vos, Best Care paramedic on scene.

The fire was quickly doused.

“Luckily no one was injured as the shop was closed for the night,” said De Vos.

“Minimal damage was caused as the public was observant and called the necessary authorities quickly.”
