Police launch manhunt for TUT robbers

Police have launched a manhunt for three armed men after they robbed and shot a Tshwane University Student last week.

Police were searching for three armed men after a student was shot in the chest when he was robbed in Pretoria West.

Spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said the men fled with a cellphone and a laptop before shooting the 20-year-old in the upper body near a Metrorail station earlier in the week.

“The suspects are still at large. We are still on the hunt for them,” she said.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said the Tshwane University of Technology student was shot at close range.

“He was shot at close range in the chest and hand, leaving him in a critical condition. Paramedics stabilised the student before he was airlifted to hospital.”

Huma said a case of attempted murder and armed robbery was being investigated.

Two other students were also attacked near the same Metrorail train station near the TUT campus that same morning, TUT spokesperson Willa de Ruyter.

She said the students were stabbed multiple times during what appeared to be a robbery.

“We are still trying to find out how they are doing. The university will monitor the condition of the students and provide support as far as possible.”

Huma said the stabbings were not reported to police.
