A Somali shop owner from Winterveldt was arrested for allegedly being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and for pointing a firearm at a customer.
The 29-year-old Somali allegedly had an argument with a customer who had come to buy cigarettes on Sunday.
“It is alleged during the argument, the shop owner pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the customer,” said Chabangu.
The victim contacted the police who went to the shop to investigate.
“Police searched the shop owner and recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” she said.
The firearm’s serial number had been filed off.
Police investigations will continue to determine if the firearm, a Norinco, could be linked to other crimes.
The suspect would appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon.
