NEWSFLASH: Chemical spill in Centurion
Motorists advised to steer clear of Wierda Road after chemical spill.
A chemical spill rendered several roads unusable in Centurion on Wednesday.
Centurion Concerned Citizens spokesperson Hannes du Buisson said the M10 (Wierda Road), between Ashwood Drive and Selborne Avenue was closed by police. Roads crossing Wierda Road could as a result not be used.
“Early reports indicate that the spill originated from vagrants opening chemical barrels illegally dumped next to the road,” said Du Buisson.
“The chemical apparently makes you dizzy when you inhale it.”
Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma could not be reached immediately.
Motorists were advised to find alternate routes.
