Pretoria cop shot dead

A Pretoria Flying Squad member was fatally wounded in a shootout.

A Pretoria police officer and two fugitives were killed in a shootout on the N4 early on Wednesday.

This happened near the border between Gauteng and Mpumalanga as police were chasing five men.

Two of the men were also killed, two were injured and arrested while the fifth escaped, the police tweeted.

The officer was a member of the Pretoria flying squad.

The Pretoria officer and his crew were chasing a silver Toyota RunX with five male occupants near the Diamond Toll Plaza on the N4.

According to reports, three firearms were recovered on the scene.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, spokesperson for the Hawks, confirmed the shooting but couldn’t give any further details immediately.
