Tips on how to avoid hijacking and murder

Hijacking and murder increased in the Pretoria CBD.

Car hijackings have increased in central Pretoria over the past year, according to Captain Augustinah Selepe of Pretoria Central police station.

Selepe said residents should park their vehicles in secure spaces and offered safety tips on how to avoid hijacking and murder.

“We urge people to avoid the Berea area at night because that is where criminals operate.”

Selepe said hotspots identified by police were Minnaar, Jeff Masemola and Paul Kruger streets.

Earlier in January, Selepe said the number of smash and grabs were on a rise around Burgers Park.

Pretoria Central cluster commander Major-General Daniel Mthombeni also urged residents to stay vigilant at all times.
