Four people were caught with an unlicensed firearm in their possession in Temba on Wednesday, police said.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Sarah Leshabane said a shot was fired around 2:00 in a guest house before the arrest.
“Police were called to a guest house in New Eersterust after residents heard gunshots in one of the rooms. Upon arrival, police asked the suspects to open the door but they refused to,” she said.
“Police managed to force their way into the room and found a gun with serial number filed off and four rounds of ammunition.”
The two men and two women, aged between 18 and 32, claimed to know nothing about the firearm, Lesabane said.
“They were all arrested for possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court soon.”
