Police arrest man with remote jammer

Watch police demonstrate how effective these small devices are.

A man was caught on Thursday walking around a shopping centre parking lot in Centurion with a remote jammer in his pocket.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said the man was arrested by Sergeant CT Qhelo, who was on a patrol after receiving a tip-off about a drug dealer selling nyaope.

Qhelo noticed the man walking around a shopping centre on Jean Avenue and searched him.

He did not have any nyaope, but there was a remote jammer in his pocket.

Qhelo arrested the man and brought him to the station to where officers confirmed the remote was a jamming device.

“These devices never look the same and can look like anything. This one looks like an ordinary garage remote,” said Gumbu.

“Remote jamming happens often, and we urge people to make sure that their cars are locked before they go into the shops.”

The man would be charged with with being the the possession of burglary tools.
