Woman traumatised after road rage incident

The woman says she has trouble sleeping since the road rage incident last week.

The woman who became a road rage victim last week, is still traumatised.

Cora van Wyk (58) was making her way home from work on Thursday, when a young motorist hit her in the face.

Van Wyk said she was stuck in traffic in Pretorius Street, Hatfield when she realised she had to make a quick turn to the right into Jan Shoba Street.

“I was in the wrong lane for the right turn so, I tried to, a black BMW cut me off,” she said.

Van Wyk said she decided to make the turn anyway so she drove around the BMW.

“I turned and drove away but as I stopped at the next traffic light, the man blocked me off, got out of his car yelling as he came toward me. I had no way out.”

Van Wyk said she estimated the man to be in his 30s.

“When I thought he was done screaming hit me in the face hard.”

She said the man got into his car and fled towards the Moot.

“Several motorists, including myself, tried to follow him but he was driving too fast.”

Van Wyk said she was having trouble sleeping since the incident.

“I am very nervous while driving now. It’s very traumatic. You don’t realise how serious road rage is until it happens to you.”

Sergeant Asnath Malatsi, Sunnyside police spokesperson, confirmed a case of assault had been opened.

“No suspect has been arrested yet,” she said.
