Heavens open but restrictions remain

Tshwane metro has warned residents that water restrictions remained in place despite the heavy rain experienced in the city since Wednesday.

Water restrictions in Tshwane remain in place despite rain and flooding that have been creating havoc in some areas in the metro since Wednesday evening.

Metro spokesman Selby Bokaba said the restrictions imposed in October last year still had to be adhered to.

“If the situation changes, we will inform residents,” Bokaba said, urging residents not to ignore the restrictions in the meantime.

They include no watering of gardens,no filling of swimming pools and no washing of vehicles using a hose pipe between 06.00 and 18.00.

Meanwhile, constant and heavy rain caused pandemonium in certain areas of the city, especially the north and in Centurion.

Several bumper bashings and more serious accidents brought traffic to a standstill on major routes, causing delays in some areas of up to two hours.

In low-laying areas in the north, two cars were washed away and according to Tshwane Emergency Services, one of the vehicles, which landed in the water in Doornpoort on Wednesday evening, was still not found by Thursday morning.
