Metro cop still critical after shooting
Five suspects have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a metro police officer in a critical condition.
A Tshwane metro police officer shot and wounded in Hercules earlier this week was on Friday still in a critical condition in hospital.
The officer and four others were attending to a crime scene in the Gomora informal settlement around 11:00 on Tuesday when they came under fire.
Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the officer was wounded and second one was assaulted.
He said the injured were rushed to the nearest hospital.
“The assaulted officer is recovering at home and receiving counselling. He is on sick leave until further notice,” Mahamba said.
Five people had been arrested in connection with the attack.
“A firearm the suspects took from the officer has since been recovered by the police and the Tshwane metro police.”
Mahamba urged anyone with information on the shooting to call the Hercules police station on 012-377-4112 or the Tshwane metro police on 082-891-8625.
