Bullet runner triggers police
A man dropped 9mm ammunition fleeing from law enforcement, and police confirm a clean operation is underway.
Three men narrowly escaped the clutches of the law when they were chased down the streets of Elardus Park at the weekend.
Bull Security’s French Jueste said the incident occurred around 03:15 when Bull security officers on patrol responded to a constantly barking dog at a residence.
“We immediately went on ‘ghost’ patrol, where our lights were switched off, to try and figure out what was going on,” said Jueste.
He said three me who hadn’t seen them jumped off a wall and landed right in front of their vehicle.
“The men immediately started running.”
Jueste said they (the firm) immediately gave chase, and one of the men dropped his back pack while running.
“Inside the bag we found several 9mm gun bullets.” Jueste said.
The trio fled towards Delmas road into the old dump site.
Jueste said eventhough their Special Operations officers and Tactical Unit assisted, the men managed to get away.
He asked residents to be very careful as criminals were often armed.
“An operation will be arranged with Lyttelton SAPS to do a clean-up operation in the dumps as soon as possible,” said Jueste.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said that in reaction to this information, police would deliberate and set up a clean-up campaign of the dump site.
“Police cannot not stand by and allow criminals a safe haven for escape,” Gumbu said.
Gumbu said after a communicated process with different security firms a clean-up operation would be launched.
