Woman beaten during Daspoort tunnel protest
A woman sustained severe injuries after she was forced out of her car and attacked by service delivery protestors last week.
A woman was viciously assaulted in the West of Pretoria during a massive protest at the Daspoort tunnel recently.
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said she feared even reporting the matter to police because the people who had assaulted her knew her and her children.
“I am very afraid for my children,” she said.
The woman was dragged out of her vehicle and she said she remembered being struck to the floor by the protesters.
“I don’t know why they assaulted me, but I think it was deliberate.”
She said a bystander came to her aid after the protesters damaged her vehicle.
She said a friend asked why she had not reported the incident to the media or police but said she insisted that she feared for her life and that of her children.
“I live not far from the tunnel, and fear the protestors would come vandalise my home as well.”
The Daspoort tunnel was closed last Wednesday when violence erupted in demand of service delivery.
Motorists were advised to use alternative routes by the metro as the Daspoort tunnel was closed on Wednesday morning due to protests.
According to residents of Gomorra, an informal settlement, residents were demanding better service delivery.
