Armed robbery suspect apprehended.
Another suspect was arrested by the Silverton police.
A second man in connection with a business robbery in Rietgat on 23 February, was arrested by the Silverton police on Friday.
The police had been searching for him since.
Silverton police spokesperson, Captain Jan Sepatu said the police were tipped-off that the man would be in court for a murder case on Friday and went there where they arrested him.
Three other men, however, are still on the run.
The 30-year-old will be charged for business robbery.
“The first suspect is already in custody after being arrested by a security company in Nellmapius on 23 February,” said Sepatu.
Private investigators employed by the cigarette manufacturer, British American Tobacco, were driving in Pretoria when they spotted the men driving in a Toyota Quantum which they identified as having been involved in a hijacking of a cigarette delivery truck in Villieria recently. When they tried to stop it, it sped off prompting a high speed chase.
“The Toyota Quantum was cornered at the entrance to Nellmapius Extension 1 and one man was arrested while the other four fled the scene on foot,” said Sepatu.
Police were called, and upon searching the vehicle, found an unlicensed firearm, stolen cigarettes, powder soap and airtime vouchers.
Further investigations will determine if the Toyota was involved in other robberies.
The man will appear in the magistrate’s court soon.
Police are still searching for the other three men.
