Operation Kumula drugs in Mams East

Non stop drug operations in Mams East.

Drug users and drug lords will no longer have a place to operate or use drugs in Mamelodi East anymore.

This follows an unannounced blitz, Operation Kumula, organised by the Mamelodi Local Drug Action Committee in conjunction with the Community Policy Forum, the police and the City of Tshwane Department of Health and Social development on Saturday morning.

Through Operation Kumula the organisations aim to root drugs out of the community.

The operation would identify and shut down drug dens and arrest druglords and users.

Chairperson of the Mamelodi Local Drug Action Committee, Victor Tswai said unannounced operations would take place every week.

“Our aim is to apprehend drug users and drug lords who supply drugs to the youth of Mamelodi,” said Tswai.

The operation started at Mamelodi East police station at 08:00, then proceeded to Extension 4, community park in Extension 4 to the community park in Section 16, followed by a patrol at the bus terminal at Phase 6 where drug addicts and users hide and ended in Phomolong informal settlement around 15:00.

“We are going to have these unannounced operations whenever we want until the community is a drug free zone,” said Tswai.

Resident, Thabo Kgotsi pleaded with residents to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of drug lords.

“By arresting the drug lords, the level of crime will be brought down in Mamelodi,” said Kgotsi.

“Hotspots visited during the operation were identified by residents,” said Kgotsi.

The dagga trees rooted out in Phomolong informal settlement were taken to the Mamelodi East police station but no arrest was made on the day.
